rise in cost of hygienist visits

Like every home and business we're experiencing tough times financially with rising energy costs and inflation. This means that the running costs of our dental practice are increasing significantly.

To help meet these rising expenses we have taken the decision to increase our hygienist appointment prices from £40 to £45 for a 30 minute appointment.

Any decision such as this is not taken lightly and we are aware of the potential impact this may have on our patients. Although, we would like to point out that for our paying NHS patients suffering from periodontitis (gum disease), your treatment with the hygienist privately is still cheaper than the band 2 cost on the NHS, i.e. private is £45 and the NHS band payment from band 1 to band 2 is £46.70.

In the meantime, the co-owners are working hard to improve the availability of our hygienist team for our patients and upscale the equipment and treatments used in surgery. By the end of this year our third surgery, where the hygienists work, will be available every Monday to Friday during opening hours.

For those who already have hygienist appointments booked in the diar
y, our management will be contacting you via telephone to notify you of the change before it is brought into effect from the start of June 2024. We will be looking to secure a 50% deposits for these visits moving forward around a month in advance to the visit. Please see our other bulletins discussing this.

Thank you in advance for your support on this matter

Increase in NHS dental charges for patients

From 1 April 2024, NHS dental treatment charges in England will rise by 4%.

The cost of your dental treatment depends on what treatment you need, it will either be Band 1, Band 2 or Band 3. NHS dental charges from 1 April 2024 will be:

  • £26.80 for Band 1 course of treatment

  • £73.50 for Band 2 course of treatment

  • £319.10 for Band 3 course of treatment

Check if you’re eligible for free or reduced cost NHS dental treatment using the NHS eligibility checker at www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/check.

If you’re not exempt from charges, you will only pay one charge for each complete course of treatment, even if you need to go to the dentist more than once to finish it. Your dentist may collect this charge in instalments.
